R Collard has been engaged to carry out demolition of public buildings by Local Authorities for many years. In that time we have built-up considerable practical knowledge of the key issues involved. Our management team has experience of liaising with planning, project and environmental health teams in Local Government to plan and sequence municipal demolition works.

Municipal buildings are often located in high-density urban or city-centre areas and are therefore bounded by occupied residential and commercial buildings and busy streets. We take additional care to implement health and safety measures as well as methods to minimise/coordinate logistics and the emission of noise, vibration and dust.

Our experience of municipal demolition includes:

  • Town halls
  • Health centres
  • Libraries
  • Museums
  • Leisure/sports centres
  • Community premises
  • Car parks

Many of these buildings are listed structures and we have established methodology for protecting items of heritage or archaeological significance prior to demolition including the design and installation of façade retention schemes, implementing protective measures and carefully salvaging and storing items to be retained.
