Yusef Gois, an Assistant Estimator in Collard’s demolition department, was already familiar with the Collard brand before joining the company, having frequently seen its fleet operating locally. With a longstanding interest in construction, he fulfilled his ambition by joining Collard as a Trainee Estimator in 2023.
Yusef says, “The role of a demolition estimator is to calculate the cost and time it’ll take to safely take down a building or a structure, usually in response to an invitation to tender.
“It involves reviewing tender documentation, visiting the client to understand their requirements, and working closely with a wider team to assess and price the job accurately.”
During his time at Collard, Yusef has been involved in many demolition projects, including Camberley Town Centre, Greenford Trading Estate, and Field House at Leighton Park School.
“The demolition projects that Collard delivers are very diverse, from car parks and schools to hotels and offices”

Training and accreditations
Since starting at Collard as a trainee, Yusef has secured his Certificate in Quantity Surveying Practice from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and has been promoted to Assistant Estimator.
He explains, “The course was delivered online over 12 months, which meant I could continue working while completing assignments. At Collard, I was also given dedicated time to manage both successfully, and the company funded the accreditation.”
Beyond the more formal qualifications, Yusef has been developing his skills and gaining experience by shadowing his colleagues and visiting sites to observe demolition work in action and by spending time with the operational team delivering it, experiences he’s found invaluable.
Being an estimator at Collard
One of the reasons Yusef chose to join Collard as an estimator, rather than a housebuilding firm, for example, was the variety of work.
“The demolition projects that Collard delivers are very diverse, from car parks and schools to hotels and offices,” he explains. “That variety really appeals to me.”
Now an Assistant Estimator, Yusef is keen to progress further at Collard. He believes success in the role comes down to having a keen eye for detail, being comfortable with tight deadlines, and building strong rapport with the client and everyone involved in the tender process.
“I like it here. Everybody’s happy to help, there’s no such thing as a stupid question, and you’re not left to sink or swim — there’s lots of support. The company also puts on a lot of free social events where you can bring your family and get to know people on a more personal level.”
