We recently welcomed Beth and Nicola to our squad of skilled HGV drivers. Now they’ve both settled into their new roles we caught up with them to find out their first impressions of working with Collard and what they’re enjoying most so far.
Name: Beth Hill
Role at Collard: Skip driver based in Eversley, started April 2026
How long have you been driving HGVs?
I’m really new to the industry, I passed my HGV Class 1 in 2022 and since then I’ve mainly driven a 7.5t so this is the first time I’m putting my HGV qualification into practice full time. My mum is also an HGV driver, so she encouraged me to take my test and pursue driving as a career.
What do you enjoy about it?
I really enjoy a challenge, I’m an active person and I like to be busy, so this role ticks all the boxes for me. I like being out on the road in different areas and meeting new people because it means that every day is different. I didn’t expect to be delivering, exchanging and collecting skips but it’s a skill I’m enjoying learning and the team here have been so supportive and encouraging, which I really appreciate.
What are your first impressions of Collard?
I’ve been really impressed by how brilliant the other Collard drivers are – they have a friendly can-do professional approach to any job. It was quite daunting at first to go into this kind of environment but everyone I’ve met, from the office team, mechanics, drivers and the guys at the yard, have been really lovely and it’s a friendly environment to work in. I’m still finding my feet with this new adventure but the fact that the team have been faultless with encouragement shows they care and has made me feel included and supported. Even though it can be a dusty, muddy job at times, the people make the workplace a really pleasant place to be.
Name: Nicola Wigley
Role at Collard: Tipper driver based in Andover, started March 2026
How long have you been driving HGVs?
I got my bus licence in 1998 and I’ve driven recovery vehicles too. Two years ago, I left the buses and started working on the tippers, which is what I do for Collard now and I love it. In my previous roles, I’ve been to a lot of construction sites so I feel like I know how to deal with lads on site and my experiences have been positive – everyone I’ve met has been friendly and helpful.
What do you enjoy about it?
I always think that a job is what you make it. I enjoy working on my own and being part of the Collard team, meeting new people on site and bumping into some familiar faces too. No two days are the same. I’ve worked here for a few months now and most days we have a different job to do which I like.
What are your first impressions of Collard?
I love it! I’ve wanted to work for Collard for a while now everyone I’ve met so far, from the office staff and site teams to my fellow drivers, has been very supportive and friendly. It makes it such a pleasant place to work and a job I enjoy doing. Collard is by far the nicest working environment of any job I’ve ever had. The whole team has been really welcoming, and I can tell that, like me, they all take pride in doing a great job for our customers.
