We have secured a series of projects for a major national precast concrete manufacturer which involve the decommissioning of premises located across England so they can be adapted for alternative uses.

The ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos (see picture gallery) are from one of the projects in the East Midlands. The heavy weights combined with the low height of the building restricted the size of the machines we could use so we had to be innovative in our methods of dismantling. The existing gantry crane and a telehandler were used to remove some of the wastes but anything that was too large was cut into smaller sections before being removed.

The site is now being used to construct sections of precast concrete for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, London’s new super sewer. The capital currently relies on a 150 year-old sewer system that was built for a population less than half its current size. The new 25km tunnel being constructed by Tideway under the River Thames will prevent the tens of millions of tonnes of pollution that currently contaminate the Thames every year.
