Milestone Acquisition

Date: 12/11/2019

We’re celebrating becoming one of the largest privately owned waste businesses in the South of England following our acquisition of Raymond Brown Waste Solutions last month.

Through sustained investment and strategic acquisitions Collard Group has grown significantly into a multi-disciplined demolition and waste business. Our wide-range of services include demolition, recycling, haulage, earthworks, sustainably produced ready-mixed concrete, virgin and high-grade secondary aggregates, and skip hire. With 400 employees we turnover more than £50M and have the capacity to process over 1M tonnes of waste and recycled aggregates every year.

With Raymond Brown Waste Solutions on board we’ve extended the areas we cover and now operate from nine recycling centres across five counties, covering Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Surrey and Oxfordshire, with demolition services nationwide.

The acquisition coincides with the 25th Anniversary of R Collard Ltd and marks a major milestone in the company’s history. Rob started as a sole trader in 1994 with a second-hand tipper lorry providing haulage services to local construction companies. The last five years has seen significant investment in plant and equipment, including a state-of-the-art wash plant and new ready-mixed concrete plant, as well as strategic acquisitions include the purchase of his late-father’s waste management business M Collard Ltd in July 2016.

Rob explains: “We’ve come a long way since we started and this major milestone is testament to the hard work and dedication of every single employee who have each, in their own way, contributed to our success. I am proud and delighted to have welcomed over 80 new employees to the business.”

It continues to be a family-run business with four generations of Collards involved in the region’s waste industry since the Second World War. Rob’s sons Ricky and Jordan also work in the business when they’re not busy with their racing careers with Aston Martin and McLaren.

As a major local employer, the company invests heavily in its people through local apprenticeship schemes, skills training and the continuous professional development of its staff. Being a part of the community through active, tangible support for local causes and initiatives is important to Collard employees. In the last 18 months alone, the company has contributed over £120,000 supporting charity and community projects, as well as helping to raise £75,000 for national children’s charities through its association with the National Federation of Demolition Contractors.
