Demolition is one of the construction industry’s most high-risk disciplines and maintaining the health and safety of all those concerned is our principal concern when planning and managing works. Significant investment in human resources, management systems, competency training and auditing demonstrate our commitment to this critical issue.

R Collard operates an occupational health and safety management system which is certificated against International Standard OHSAS 18001. This provides the company with the framework and discipline to ensure all of our activities associated with demolition are conducted in full compliance with current Regulations and industry best practice.

The system is maintained and implemented by our in-house Health & Safety Team who are responsible for assessing and managing risk, maintaining and developing worker competency and carrying out audits and inspections. All of our operational staff are fully trained and accredited to competencies relevant to their grade. Regular refresher training organised through the National Federation of Demolition Contractors’ National Demolition Training Group (NDTG) maintains and enhances their skills and ability to work in a safe manner.

Our programme of regular unannounced inspections of sites are supplemented by external audits that include assessment of health and safety which maintain our memberships and accreditations including:

  • National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC)
  • Site Audit Accreditation Scheme (NFDC)
  • OHSAS 18001 (ISOQAR)
  • Building Confidence (Achilles)
  • Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS)
