Looking after our People

R Collard Divider

We care about our people and the environment we work in and are committed to ensuring the health, safety, development and wellbeing of our people along with everyone we come into contact with.

We’re Committed To Achieving Zero Harm

Our in house HSQE Department is led by a HSQE Director ensuring the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of our People remains a Board priority, while our in house HSQE professionals support all levels of management and operational teams providing practical advice, guidance and risk assurance functions including audits and inspections to support our continuous improvement.

We operate an integrated Business Management System, UKAS accredited to ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), ISO 9001 Quality Management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS). This provides the framework to ensure all of our activities are conducted in full compliance with current regulations and industry best practice.

Qualified HSQE advisors are aligned to each business unit and regularly visit sites to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. HSQE reports are communicated to the appropriate levels in the business and any non-conformances identified require a corrective action plan, including a date by which it will be completed.

Employee Wellbeing

Collard is committed to maintaining the physical and mental wellbeing of all our people. We do this by encouraging and promoting a supportive working environment and culture for all our people.

We understand that life is not all about work but whenever our employees are experiencing stresses or pressures, we encourage them to reach out. We have a number of trained Mental Health First Aiders across all our sites who are there to support and direct employees to suitable help.

We also run a range of health promotion initiatives designed to raise awareness of health and lifestyle issues affecting mental health and wellbeing. The initiatives include an Employee Assistance Programme for all employees incorporating a free mental health support line, 24/7 GP online access, bereavement counselling and probate support. We also offer discounted gym membership and encourage staff to maintain a good level of physical activity outside of work.

“My Collard apprenticeship has brought out the best in me. I’ve developed so many practical and life skills here that I can use on a daily basis, and have achieved qualifications that help secure my future. Looking back, I’ve grown so much in confidence too.
