Bulk Earthworks & Excavation

R Collard Ltd has the expertise, experience and resources to supply a complete bulk earthworks service from design to engineering, excavation, re-deposit, re-grading, levelling and disposal of land. Our experienced management team, specialist plant and in-house recycling capabilities enable us to provide sustainable groundworks solutions to facilitate regeneration and civil engineering schemes.  We offer a range or bulk excavation services that include;-

  • Excavations.
  • Volumetric calculations.
  • Ground profiles.
  • Re-engineering.
  • Stabilising fills.
  • And much more!

Typically, we work closely with our client’s team or specialist consultancies to plan major projects requiring bulk earthworks.  Pre-start services include surveying, engineering, volumetric analysis and setting-out from digital formats.  We can prepare and supply material to Series 600 Highways Specification or your bespoke requirements.  For more information about our bulk excavation and groundwork services, get in touch with us at R Collard today by calling 01252 844688.

Our wide-range of specialist plants includes excavators, loading shovels, screeners and rollers which enables us to excavate, re-locate and re-grade large volumes of land – all operated by specialist, fully-trained labour with CPCS accreditation.  We have experience of facilitating basement/reduced-level digs, installing piling mats and removing and disposing of stockpiled spoils from site.

Our comprehensive logistics services enable us to transport engineered material to/from site and our decontamination and recycling capabilities enhance the environmental credentials of your project.

Why Bulk Excavations?

Bulk excavations are regularly used in the construction of major infrastructure projects such as roads and railways to best prepare the ground for the construction of large buildings including office blocks, hospitals, schools, infrastructure projects and housing developments.  Our team have the experience and equipment to undertake a variety of bulk excavations to ensure the ground is at the right level for building work to proceed.  Experienced engineers calculate the exact volumes of earth which will be needed to complete the project, using the latest specialist software. This enables them to work out exactly where and how the excavated earth can be reused, with the aim of having to take away as little material as possible once the job is complete.

Types of Excavation

Depending on the site, different types of excavation may be required for your development project before work can begin.  The most common type of excavation that we carry out at sites is topsoil excavation.  This type of excavation involves the removal of the exposed or the topmost area of the earth’s surface.  The excavation method removes vegetation, soil, and any other decaying material that could make the land unsuitable to bear structural loads.  Other types of bulk excavation we are able to carry out include the following;-

  • Rock excavation.
  • Mulch excavation.
  • Earth excavation.
  • Dredging.
  • Trench excavation.
  • Cut and fill excavation.

Groundwork services are used at the very start of a construction project and generally consist of site clearances, installation of footings and foundations including provisions for drainage and utilities.  Every project that we undertake is completely unique and may require different services depending on the existing condition and future plans for the site.  The first step will be to discuss requirements and then investigate the ground for hazardous materials and plan for removal.  Site clearance will then go ahead shortly after with considerations also maybe including surfacing roads and carparks, ground anchors and sheet piles.

Is groundworks essential?

Yes, it’s absolutely essential.  If you don’t get the foundation spot on, it could cause potentially larger problems further down the line.  Whatever your project, ensure that ground investigation is undertaken!

What types of projects need groundwork services?

As well your usual construction and building site work, groundwork services can also be useful and necessary for excavations, driveways, footings, and block flooring.

Why choose R Collard?

R Collard has over 25 years’ experience and we’re proud to have recently won two prestigious awards that clearly reflect our strong and growing reputation as leaders in the industry.  As a well-established business, the vast majority of our work comes through repeated business and referrals.

What type of plant and machinery is used?

The right plant for the bulk excavation job depends largely on the type of material being dug, the aspect and access of the site and the amount of material that needs to be excavated and moved.
