Project round-up from our demolition service

Construction site

It’s been a busy few months for our demolition team who have been working on several large-scale projects. Here’s a round-up of some of our stand-out projects which showcase the breadth of our demolition service offering, from clearing the way for a new college building on the Isle of Wight to high street regeneration.

Stage one of our project at The Isle of Wight College in Newport got underway in the summer when we sailed our plant equipment safely across the Solent from Southampton to Cowes. The 18-week project involves both our demolition and Asbestos removal teams working together.

We’re pleased to be working with Bournemouth Christchurch Poole Council to demolish the former WH Smith building as part of the Boscombe High Street Restoration Project. Due to its proximity to the high street, which remained open to shoppers throughout, we had to crane a 5t excavator onto the top floor of the building and demolish from top down. Works are progressing well, and the team have supported two local community site visits during the project – a group of A-level students and a group of young adults with disabilities.

Elsewhere,  we’re working with Surrey Heath Borough Council on its Camberley town centre regeneration project which represents a significant investment in the town. As of November, the enabling and Asbestos removal is substantially complete, with the main demolition works due to commence shortly with the soft strip demolition phase.

Other projects of note are in Harrow, where our demolition team and in-house asbestos team, Amiante, have been working very closely together with the local authority client to overcome some unforeseen challenges. Work is also progressing well in Kettering, where we have commenced the second phase of demolition works on the former Odeon cinema complex and a nearby disused pub, while in Slough we’re engaged in a programme of works to demolish three large office blocks for one of our repeat customers. And following our successful demolition package at Spelthorne Leisure Centre, our civils and enabling team has now completed and handed over the first section of the permanent car park as the project moves into phase two.
