Landfill diversion
We’re driven by a zero-waste-to-landfill commitment. That means we aim to stop as much of your waste from going to landfill sites as we possibly can. We can process over one million tonnes of waste across our nine recycling centres and typically divert around 98% from landfill.
How we help you avoid landfill
Our goal is to minimise the environmental impact of your waste. To do that, we help you to:
- Reduce the waste you produce in the first place by improving your waste management practices
- Reuse the waste you generate by turning it into valuable commodities that can be re-sold
- Recycle your waste to create new products like our award-winning ready-mix concrete
- Recover energy from your waste to heat and power homes and businesses
Construction Projects
There’s no better demonstration of our landfill diversion practices than on our demolition projects. We demolish a building, prepare the remaining land for future development, process the demolition waste, and return it to the site for reuse in construction. This is what we call ‘Recycling the past for the future’.
Why landfill diversion is so important
Having your waste taken away and disposed of is no longer enough. Organisations, in particular, are under increasing pressure to demonstrate how they’re transforming their waste practices to run more sustainably.
Landfill sites contribute to pollution by releasing harmful greenhouse gases and contaminating land. Landfill avoidance strategies conserve energy, lower carbon emissions, and support a circular economy, all of which improve your environmental performance.

Financial penalties for landfill usage
