BREAKING NEWS! Collard Group founder and MD Rob Collard returns to the British GT championship with son Ricky Collard.
The duo will compete in the Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan.
Rob’s last British GT appearance came at Silverstone where he sealed the crown alongside Sandy Mitchell. He then switched to Fanatec GT Europe where he enjoyed further success with Barwell and the Huracan.
Ricky, meanwhile, embarks on his first full-season British GT campaign (he made a one-off appearance at Oulton back in 2018) after spending the last two years competing in the BTCC. However, he’s no stranger to GT3 cars nor the previous generation Huracan. Indeed, he and Rob won the Pro-Am class together at the Spa 24 Hours in 2020.
Commenting on the news Rob said, “Barwell made my decision to switch from British Touring Cars to British GT very easy. The confidence they gave me as a driver to sign for them in 2020 for the British and European Championship was the highlight of my racing career. Winning the Silverstone 500, the Spa24 ProAm and the overall ProAm championship in my first season far exceeded my expectations and this was due to their ability to get the best from the car and driver with their exceptional engineering experience which is second to none. It’s great to be back racing the Lamborghini this season with my son Ricky. The championship is looking busy so we need to be on our A game!”
And Ricky further added, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, it’s always been a crazy idea that someday we would share a race car together as a father-son pairing. We were lucky enough to do a one-off race and win the Spa 24hr ProAm and now to be taking on the best in the British GT is something we will be able to cherish forever. The main focus is obviously to go out there and contend for victories but also just to go out there and have fun! Racing is in the family and we’ve both stood at the side of the race track and supported each other, we can’t wait to meet all the fans at the events and work with a great team of guys and girls at Barwell.
