Demolition news - May 2019

Our demolition team head to Basingstoke to start enabling works as part of re-development work at Basing View.

The 65-acre business park in the heart of Basingstoke is undergoing a programme of major redevelopment with £2.3 million of investment for public realm infrastructure from Basingstoke and Deane Council and Muse Developments appointed as its development partner.

The transformation of this central business district with outstanding transport links will open up a wide choice of business space options for companies of all sizes including Grade A office accommodation alongside other complementary uses including residential, retail and leisure. Basing View is attracting new companies of all sizes, from start-ups to corporate headquarters. Recent newcomers are the new Waitrose John Lewis At Home store and Network Rail.

Our enabling works project, part of this major re-development, is now in full flow with the demolition of retail units and car park fully complete. All inert masonry and concrete from these demolition works have been crushed and re-used on site in the installation of piling mats. With the site steeply sloping, this has resulted in some areas of fill being seven metres thick. The piling works are due to start shortly and the rotary bored piles will form a contiguous piled retaining wall on three sides of the site with some of the piles at 1.35m in diameter. This will allow for the construction of a five storey office block and multi storey car park within the confines of the retaining walls. Following completion of the piles; pile caps and reinforced concrete retaining walls are to be constructed.

Due to the town centre location of this project our demolition team have carefully considered any noise, vibration and dust issues that may occur and have issued information to all residential neighbours.

The completion of the overall project will take place in October 2019.
