Harwell Campus, Didcot, Earthworks

This earthworks and civils project involved the stripping of topsoil to specific levels and stockpiling the material for future re-use within the landscape scheme. We cut an estimate of 1.4m of the site and removed any existing obstructions.

Collards then had to cut in order to achieve the proposed formation levels supplied by the client whilst also removing all abandoned utilities. Additionally, we crushed all re-usable materials to 6F2 to form part of the new piling mat that Collards are to install on site.

A key challenge for us is that the site had no real records for underground services. Due to this, Collards were instructed to locate and uncover all unknown services prior to any excavation works commencing on site.

Summary of the Scope of Works:

Site Clearance of existing vegetation.
Locating all underground services on site.
Stripping of topsoil and hauling to the designated stockpile location.
Removal of existing foundations and ground slab.
Cut and fill to formation.
Stabilising soils.
